Tekst achterflap

In today's society, we are increasingly being told that 'things cannot continue as they are' and that fundamental changes must be made to our social system. But how can we continue to live with institutions in which we have lost trust? Over the past few decades, our society has undergone two opposing developments. On the one hand, there has been an increase in scale and uniformity as a result of automation, digitisation, cross-border corporate mergers and the concentration of money, and therefore power. On the other hand, our population is becoming increasingly diverse and, thanks to the internet, more aware of its environment, cause and effect, and the shortcomings of our government. This has resulted in growing unrest and resistance among the population. Through the 1992 Maastricht Treaty, our European governments committed themselves to the interests of the free market. Article 129 created the possibility of close cooperation and conflicts of interest between governments, global IT companies, and global pharmaceutical companies. The World Health Organisation oversees all of this. This book describes the current state of affairs. It is strange that, despite being confronted daily with the unreliability and incompetence of governments, our population suddenly has seemingly unlimited trust in those same governments when it comes to vaccinations, for example. Is this trust based on conviction or fear? This book examines policy documents from the EU, the WHO and our governments to provide insight into how we ended up in the current situation. It also discusses the possibility of reforming society so that we can solve our problems and restore a healthy dynamic. This reform would involve rebuilding institutions from the bottom up based on the right of association (Article 8 of the Constitution), as well as reforming the monetary system. We will have to do it ourselves, because the authorities have shown that they are unable to bring about the necessary changes.
