Uwe Lausen – Ende Schön Alles Schön
The autididact Uwe Lausen is one of the most important artists of the figurative painting in the 60ies in Europe. In 2010 the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt exhibited a retrospective of his work. Lausen used parts of pop-art and hyperrealism and reflected his times and its people in the most honest way. He was politically engaged with parties, willing to revolutionally make cultural changes, like SPUR and the Situationistische Internationale. Many of his motives are inspired by this political-cultural background as well as by his experience with drugs and his fight against the authorities in post-war Germany. Learning about Uwe Lausens short and eventful life, it becomes clear that he should be mentioned beside artists such as Gerhard Richter or Sigmar Polke, as his work is not only passionate and powerful but most of all still up-to-date.
