Dalí – Le Surréalisme, c'est moi!
The oeuvre of Salvador Dalí and his influence, at work even today, the visionary, often unrecognised aspects of his unusually multi-faceted but also provocative and controversially received creative work equally foreshadow the media marketing strategies of the art market, as well as current Surrealist tendencies in contemporary art. Dalí's paintings, drawings and sculptures are examined together with more recent works by Louise Bourgeois, Glenn Brown, Markus Schinwald and Francesco Vezzoli with respect to the aesthetic forms of the Surreal. The central issues of the content focus on the psychoanalytic visual world of the subconscious and on the dreams, tradition and technique of painting and the representation of the body, the staging of rooms as allegories of the psyche and the crossing of frontiers between art, film and design, as well as the attitude towards mass culture. Not least, the catalogue aims to concentrate the focus on general questions concerning the role of art and artists in society, and by confronting philosophical, art-historical and sociological issues, creates an exciting dialogue between artistic forms of expression of the Modern and the Contemporary.
